First Love

This is a series I’m calling “Write the Damn Poem” where a take a list of prompts and make a poem. They’re all first drafts that maybe will turn into something more! We’ll see!

my lies fell on both of our ears.

I relish in
how you took me in
let me learn
let me fail
let me be

the passion was less than real, and
the enchantment came later, but
I’m glad I know now that
it woulda been you just like it
it woulda been anyone

I will not take up any more of your youth.

the moment: tender, bittersweet
it’s a flame i barely remember

but that’s just for us
it woulda been you
it woulda been anyone
